NORWALK, Conn., June 3, 2006 – The Friends of the Norwalk Public Library received the 2006 Outstanding Friend’s Group Award as bestowed by the Friends Of Connecticut Libraries at their annual meeting, June 3, 2006.

Presenting the award, Carl Nawrocki FOCL Board member and Awards Chairperson noted, "The Friends of the Norwalk Public Library went above and beyond in working with the Library Board of Directors to fund a shortfall in the renovation of the historic South Norwalk Branch Library."

In accepting the award, Sally Salancy, Norwalk Public Library Friends president credited the hard work of the Friends Board and all the volunteers who work tirelessly to manage the group’s twice-yearly book sale from which most of their money is realized. "From our earlier book sale we have this far contributed $25,000 to support our South Norwalk Branch Library’s needs," explained Salancy. In nominating the Friends of the Norwalk Public Library for the FOCL award, Les Kozerowitz, Library director pointed out, "Running a $25,000 used book sale on such short notice was a daunting task. Their effort was a triumph of love over physics – for their devotion, hard work and generosity of spirit, the Friends of the Norwalk Public Library truly deserve the Group award."

Coincidentally, the award, presented at the Miller Memorial; Library in Hamden, was at the time of the 25^th anniversary of the FOCL which has over 110 Library Friend’s groups as participating members.
